Jane's Priorities

Public Safety

Public Safety ensures that everyone in our community can live, work, play, shop, worship, and thrive without fear. Achieving this requires a focus on reducing crime, protecting people and property, and creating a secure environment.

Reducing future crime through rehabilitation and programs that empower individuals to rebuild their lives.

Investing in proactive strategies that prevent crime before it happens.

Support our police department by with tools, training, and resources to serve effectively—while ensuring transparency and accountability.

Strengthen community safety efforts like neighborhood watch programs, which enhances policing and crime prevention. These initiatives educate the public on law enforcement roles and build trust through programs such as the Community Police Academy, building stronger relationships between officers and residents.

Housing and Affordability

Affordable housing is a challenge locally and nationally. In Tukwila, we need realistic, community-driven solutions that serve all residents—renters and homeowners alike. Current policies have made it difficult for hardworking individuals and families to secure affordable housing. To create lasting solutions, we must:

Expand homeownership opportunities and increase middle housing options to support a broader range of households.

Streamline development to encourage builders to construct affordable homes without sacrificing quality—reducing permitting time and costs, which are major barriers.

Implement policies that strengthen tenant protections and support renters on the path to homeownership. Empowering renters through advocacy and political engagement is essential for equitable, long-term, housing solutions.

Economic Growth

To foster economic growth and ensure Tukwila thrives, we need a community-centered approach rooted in inclusivity, opportunity, and smart investment. This includes:

Empowering residents to participate in city planning, ensuring all voices—including those of different races, religions, backgrounds, and disabilities—are heard.

Supporting small businesses by easing regulations, helping entrepreneurs grow while meeting tax and labor requirements. Promoting local shopping will strengthen our economy.

Attracting investment through tourism and cultural events. Hosting festivals and showcasing Tukwila’s history and natural attractions can draw visitors and increase spending.

Investing in infrastructure like roads, transit, and broadband to improve access. Revitalizing vacant properties and public spaces can transform underused areas into vibrant destinations for both residents and businesses.

Budget

Managing and balancing the City’s budget requires strategic planning, transparency, disciplined spending, and active community involvement. Delivering real results in our neighborhoods shows residents that their hard-earned tax dollars are wisely reinvested. This includes:

Strategically planning and prioritizing expenditures that align with the City’s long-term goals and serve all residents.

Promoting transparency by involving committees and community members early in the budgeting process. Public hearings and community meetings should be held regularly with clear information to encourage meaningful input.

Pursuing grants and forming strategic partnerships to extend the reach of local tax dollars and maximize the impact of every investment.
